Why an All-Women Networking Event?

This week, I attended a networking event at the Frost Bank Center here in San Antonio, a beautifully organized gathering. Attendees were provided Uber vouchers to and from the arena, and there was delicious food for everyone in attendance. The event was thoughtful, inclusive, and intentional.

Since I’m a single mother and it was my week with my boys, ages 8 and 10, I reached out beforehand to ask if I could bring them along. The organizers responded warmly, assuring me that they were more than welcome. That alone made me feel seen, as both a professional woman and a mother, I was genuinely grateful.

During the event, something small but meaningful happened. A man standing near my table introduced himself, addressed me by name, and began a polite conversation. Before long, another man nearby turned around and said, “Oh, we’re not together.” It was an innocent misunderstanding, but it sparked a deeper realization for me:

Would this man have spoken to me had he not thought I was connected to another man?

It’s a subtle, often unspoken dynamic but, moments like that remind me why Women With Motion exists. Women deserve safe, comfortable, and intentional spaces to network, collaborate, and build without having to shrink or be validated through association.

We need rooms where women can show up — fully, confidently, and authentically — and still be respected, heard, and taken seriously. A space where mothers can bring their children without hesitation. A space where women of color, single moms, and working professionals alike can build connections rooted in genuine respect, not perception.

This experience wasn’t about blame; it was a reminder. A reminder that our presence matters, and so do the spaces that empower us to thrive unapologetically.

That’s what Women with Motion is here for — to create those spaces, amplify those voices, and make sure no woman has to wait for permission to take up space or be seen.
